15 Steps to Take After an Accident

 1. Stop immediately.
 2. Assist the injured, and call an ambulance if needed.
 3. Don't move the vehicles.
 4. Call the police and file a report.
 5. Protect yourself and others by turning on your flashers.
 6. Exchange only your name, address, and phone number with the other driver.
 7. Make sure your insurance papers are in order.
 8. Wait until the police arrive and assist the officer where possible.
 9. Admit no guilt or wrongdoing. Make sure your injuries are noted on the police report.
10. Obtain the police item number.
11. If a parked car is involved, try to locate the owner; otherwise leave a conspicuous note.
12. Fill in form (on next page) and bring it to your attorney.
13. Don't leave the scene until the police officer dismisses you.
14. Get a thorough medical checkup.
